Time to learn about Social Media Marketing: Chapter 10
In Chapter 10 in "Essentials of Social Media Marketing," I learned how YouTube responded to COVID-19 on their platform. I use YouTube a lot to watch tutorials or just watch videos for entertainment. But I was merely interested in learning more about how YouTube responded to COVID-19. Some things that YouTube did to respond to COVID-19 is updating its Community Guidelines to include a page on COVID-19 misinformation. YouTube also partnered with Centers for Disease Control to launch a link to a COVID-19 self-assessment in its health panel in Search. They even introduced a destination button on the Explore tab for creators participating in the #StayHome #WithMe campaign. I remember seeing these hashtags when I was watching videos or shorts on YouTube during the shutdown that happen March 2020. Even influencers on YouTube created new content to entertain and educate viewers. They even launched a Learn@Home, which was a website with learning resources for families. Furthermore, they launched health panels for COVID-19 that include information from the World Health Organization and National Health Service on symptoms, prevention and treatment. For the creators on YouTube, they expanded monetization of content mentioning or featuring COVID-19 to all creators and news organizations. For their employees that work at YouTube and their community, they reduced in-office staffing and relied on technology to review videos. Then, expanded fact checks to help prevent the spread of misinformation. In all, I think that YouTube responded well to COVID-19 when the world announced that it was a pandemic then improved its platform for everyone to use for educational purposes and for entertainment.
I also use YouTube for entertainment purposes rather than business and shopping. I was surprised to see how much YouTube responded to COVID-19. They did a variety of things, similar to other platforms. I never noticed the changes that were made when they happened, but from what I read in the chapter, YouTube made significant changes to accommodate to the pandemic.
ReplyDeleteYouTube is my go to when I cant fall asleep at night. I really feel like out of all the platforms they are pretty innovative based on overall relavancy.
ReplyDeleteWith the world we are in today with social media, misinformation spread is extremely common, It's nice to see a big channel like YouTube stepping up to stop the spread. Many forms of media seem to put out a Covid-19 statement just to do so, but with the efforts, YouTube is making, you can tell they genuinely care, just like how you mentioned their #stayhome #withme movements.
ReplyDeleteYouTube is a prime example of how to use their platform for good.
