College Work-life Balance
Have you ever heard of work-life balance? For these past couple of weeks, I have experienced what people say about work-life balance. These past couple of weeks have been busy for me in academics, organizations, and my social life as well. With everything that I do on campus including being in two executive positions, having two jobs on campus and trying to balance my life with academics plus social life. Not going to lie if you were to ask me how my semester was going a few weeks ago I wouldn't have been able to tell you. In just those couple of weeks, I felt very overwhelmed by assignments, classes, social life, and organizations. I got to the point when I felt so stressed that I woke up every morning feeling exhausted because of how stressed I was.
You're probably thinking when do you sleep or how did you deal with the stress? Well, the answer is simple I looked for support in all the activities that I am involved in. I talked with some of my friends and some of my advisors in my organizations then came up with a strict routine in my Google Calendar for when I was going to bed when I was doing my homework, when I had my scheduled meetings, when working out, etc. This is crazy to think about but when you feel like you are running from one place to the other plus not getting enough sleep it does catch up to you very fast. So if you are a busy bee running from one place to another take a step back and think to yourself for a moment and ask if you have time for yourself because it is alright to set some boundaries and know your limits on what you can and can't do.
Now coming off this past week I feel that I have more control over what is going on in my life plus may be a little sleepy. However, by setting some boundaries for my organizations, academics, jobs and social life it feels like I can finally think clearly about what my assignments are and when they are due plus getting work done for my organizations and jobs. Going into next week, I understand now how important it is to know your limits and set boundaries to have a good work-life balance.
I totally understand, Ammryn. It is hard to balance work, organizations and school, however setting boundaries is a true game changer. I try to prioritize my to-do list and not stress about the things that don't need stressed about.
ReplyDeleteI relate to this so much. When it comes to the upperclassmen years of college it all really does catch up to you. It is amazing what wonders a set schedule can do for the mind and body.
